After the floods
Childcare services hit by the summer 2007 floods in the North, Midlands and Gloucestershire are looking to the future with support from their communities.
Where possible, holiday playschemes opened their doors while in many areas local authorities and their partners offered additional summer activities for children and young people. And as the clean up and refurbishment continued, childcare providers and schools reopened for the new school year, some in temporary accommodation.
Local authorities have been the main port of call for those affected, providing support for relief efforts plus funding for organisations affected by flood damage. Many councils also have grants available to groups providing immediate relief to people affected by storms and floods.
